Ukrainian Citizens Share with Local Balinese Residents in Remote Areas Led by Volunteer Yuriy Lazebny

Bali | Pantau Terkini | Another charity event for Balinese local residents was held by the Ukrainian community of Bali. Community activists have gathered second-hand clothes, toys and appliances, to be handed over to low-income residents of the region.

Concerned Ukrainians collected more than 30 kgs of different clothes for men, women, teens and babies. Volunteer Olga Zhuk also bought 5 boxes of children's creative kits, sweets, etc. According to Olga, she did it because children are not really excited about clothes, but are a lot more excited about getting gifts!

All this humanitarian cargo was delivered by a volunteer team led by Yuriy Lazebny to the remote village of Sangem, that is situated far away from the main tourist traffic.

Local resident Ni Made Sunarti from Ubud has been helping Yuriy Lazebnyi's volunteer team for more than three years. Ever since the pandemic, together with Yuri, they have been holding campaigns to provide local residents with food, supplies, etc. These acts still take place regularly, however the charitable distribution of clothes from the Ukrainian community was held for the first time.

The house that held the free charity fair was provided by local teacher's family, and negotiated by Mrs. Ne Made Sunarti.

The event took place without much hype, people have tried on  clothes and took home those that fit, talked with Ukrainians, told their stories, danced, and thanked people.

The organiser of the Ukrainian volunteer movement in Bali Yuriy Lazebnyi says:

"The phenomenon of donating unnecessary things to charity is very widespread in Ukraine. Being a community activist, people often get in touch with me with the question of transferring things to orphanages, etc. I decided to collect those and then hand over to local residents. We specifically chose a remote village, because young people and adults in tourist areas usually have jobs and an opportunity to buy stuff. However in the center of the island, unfortunately, the situation is much worse. My assistant Made found such a village and together with local activists we have organised the event, and we are infinitely grateful for that! We will definitely continue and expand this activity in order to return the human warmth that Bali shares with us."

The Ukrainian community in Bali would like to thank the Consul of Ukraine in Bali for informational support. We would also like to thank BESTY clothing store and ShamanaMama restaurant in Ubud, which have helped immensely with gathering and sorting the items.

The Ukrainian community in Bali has great respect for the local residents, is studying the traditions and admiring Balinese culture and is very grateful for the warm welcome on their land.
